Purpose
The purpose of the English Placement Test (EPT) is to assess the English proficiency of newly admitted undergraduate students who have not taken the specified Hong Kong public examinations and/or have not attained an acceptable alternative English language qualification upon admission to CityUHK. The test results will determine whether enrollment in LC English enhancement courses, i.e., LC0200A English for Academic Purposes 1 and LC0200B English for Academic Purposes 2, before taking GE English courses.
Additionally, when a student is unable to successfully complete LC0200A and/or LC0200B within the permitted maximum of three (3) attempts (as set out in the University's Academic Regulations for Undergraduate Degrees), the EPT serves as an alternative mechanism to fulfil the prerequisite for GE English courses.
