Withdrawal from the pre-registered LC0200A/LC0200B section is permitted only under exceptional circumstances. Requests for withdrawal must be submitted via email to the LC General Office at language.centre@cityu.edu.hk for consideration, no later than the end of the course add/drop period.

Course Examination

Examinations for the LC English enhancement courses are generally scheduled for Week 14 in Semesters A and B, and Week 7 in the Summer Term, to avoid conflicts with examinations of major courses.

The tentative writing examination schedule1 for the 2025-26 academic year is as follows:

Course Code Semester A, 2025-26 Semester B, 2025-26 Summer 2026
LC0200A English for Academic Purposes 1 1 Dec 2025 20 Apr 2026 N/A
LC0200A English for Academic Purposes 2 N/A 20 Apr 2026 20 Jul 2026

All academic units are informed of LC English course examination schedules in advance to avoid conflicts with major assessments.

Should students be unable to attend the examination due to extenuating circumstances such as illness, hospitalization, accident, family bereavement or other unforeseeable serious personal or emotional circumstances, they must to inform their home academic unit by submitting a mitigation request via AIMS (or College of Business Online Mitigation Request System, if they are a student from the College of Business) as soon as possible and within five working days after the examination. Supporting documentations should be included to substantiate the special circumstance in their request.

Course Progression

Students must complete and pass LC0200A prior to progression to LC0200B. Upon completion and passing of both courses, students may proceed to GE1401 University English and the relevant discipline-specific GE English course.

In the event that students completed LC0200A with an overall course grade of B or above (i.e., B, B+, A-, A, and A+), they will be waived from taking LC0200B and permitted to proceed to GE1401 and the discipline-specific GE English course right away.

Course Failure

Students who do not pass the courses will receive written communication from the LC General Office (language.centre@cityu.edu.hk) following the release of the course grades, presenting options to retake either the entire course or merely the course examination in the next available semester/term. Students must respond promptly for further administrative arrangements.

Students are permitted to take a course for a maximum of three (3) attempts. If they fail to pass the course within three (3) attempts, they will NOT be permitted to proceed to GE English courses until an acceptable alternative qualification is obtained within two years. Students are advised to refer to the formal notice issued to them by the Academic Regulations and Records Office for further details at that point.
