Introduction

The Jockey Club College of Veterinary Medicine and Life Sciences (JCC) will hold a Veterinary Immersive Programme (VIP) Summer School for senior secondary school students interested to pursue a career in veterinary medicine in July 2026. The programme will provide interested students with an opportunity to gain practical experience and a comprehensive understanding of career opportunities within the veterinary profession.

This programme is suitable for students who have a strong interest in veterinary medicine and the academic potential to succeed in the internationally accredited Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine (BVM) degree course at City University of Hong Kong.

During the first week of the programme students will engage with Professors and Clinical Veterinarians from JCC through interactive lectures, Q and A sessions, practical classes and field trips to a diverse variety of animal facilities in Hong Kong. In the second week, students will undertake animal handling sessions with an opportunity to learn some of the same skills taught to our veterinary students.

In brief, the programme will run for two weeks in July 2026 and has three main components;

Talks & Lab Sessions The first component will be veterinary-oriented lectures (One Health, overview of the veterinary profession, veterinary specialties, animal welfare) laboratory sessions (Anatomy Lab, Pathobiology Lab) and practical classes (cytology, histology and post-mortem session) conducted at CityU campus;
Field Trips The second component will be guided field trips to animal facilities (Kadoorie Farm, AFCD Animal Management Centre, HKJC Equine Hospital and Quarantine Centre, CityUHK Veterinary Medical Centre and Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory);
Practical Attachments The third component will be practical attachments to facilities in Hong Kong where the participants will be able to handle animals (CityUHK Farm, Tai Tong Ecopark, Lo Wu Saddle Club, local poultry farm, cat cafe and the Hong Kong Guide Dogs Association).
