Remote Desktop

for Staff

Remote Desktop gives academic and administrative staff full control over their office PC (keyboard, mouse, screen, documents, etc).  This level of control is powerful, but also risky and should not normally be undertaken.  Currently, CityU supports two connection methods:

  1. Connecting via VPN connection and then Microsoft Remote Desktop client.  This method is less secure which will be phased out in late 2021.
  2. As an alternative, the CityU Remote Desktop Gateway Service (hereafter “RDGW”) is provided for all University staff who need to connect to office PC remotely.  It allows secure remote desktop connection from a device outside CityU campus to a Windows-based computer/server on campus using the “Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP)".  The latest “Remote Desktop Client” is available for PC and Mac as well as iOS and Android devices.  Before using RDGW, users are required to enable Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) by following the instructions in the User Guide.
