CityU Tiger@Community - Making Handicrafts for the Elderly - Mid-Autumn Festival

Date: 15 September 2023
Venue: G404, Flow Centre, G/F, LI Building, CityU

In an effort to demonstrate care and love for the elderly during the Mid-Autumn Festival, students took part in a class to learn the art of making paper lanterns. Participants were first shown a video about the initiative to help the elderly in Hong Kong. After that, students had the opportunity to create their own handcrafted paper lanterns, which would be sent to elderly individuals living in care homes. “This is a really meaningful and fun activity as I could send love and warmth to elderlies who might not be able to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival with their families,” one of the Tiger students said.

Date: 16 November 2023 (Thu)
Venue: Shek Kip Mei Wet Market

The best way to truly understand the lives of people in need is to immerse ourselves in their experiences. In this service activity, Tiger participants were given a briefing on how the underprivileged in Hong Kong manage their limited resources and live their lives day by day. They then visited a nearby wet market to collect surplus food generously donated by vegetable stalls, actively assisting in sorting and distributing it to those in need. CEP X CityU Tiger - Preparing and Sorting Raw Vegetables at Food Angel

Five dedicated Tiger Students took part in a meaningful volunteer work event with Food Angel, a food rescue and assistance programme in Hong Kong. The event aimed to combat food waste and support underprivileged communities. Tiger students actively contributed by assisting in the preparation and sorting of raw vegetables at Food Angel’s central kitchen. They opened packages, chopped luncheon meat, and helped prepare the food for cooking. The cooked food was then delivered to various local community centres to reach those in need. Through this experience, students not only made a positive impact on the local community but also gained a firsthand understanding of the importance of food rescue, waste reduction, and, most importantly, the powerful ripple effects that simple acts of kindness can have on the people around us.
