NGAN Chi Wang Ryan

NGAN Chi Wang Ryan, a Civil Engineering student, participated in CityUHK’s Student Exchange Programme and completed a semester at Aalto University, Finland.

Spending a semester at Aalto University has been a truly transformative journey. From the moment I arrived in Finland, I was welcomed into a vibrant academic and cultural community that continually inspired me to grow both intellectually and personally. Aalto’s multidisciplinary approach and emphasis on innovation pushed me to think beyond conventional boundaries and collaborate with peers from diverse backgrounds.

The campus itself, nestled in the serene beauty of Espoo perfectly balances natural tranquility with cutting-edge design. I especially appreciated the accessibility of resources, the dedication of professors, and the open-mindedness of fellow students. Courses weren’t just informative — they were immersive and hands-on, often integrating real-world challenges and creative problem-solving.

Outside the classroom, I found joy in embracing Finnish traditions — from sauna evenings to icy lake plunges — and even learned a few phrases in Finnish. The friendships I forged  here now span continents and have deepened my appreciation for intercultural understanding and global perspectives

Aalto has truly broadened my horizons. I leave with not only academic growth, but also unforgettable memories and a renewed sense of purpose. Kiitos, Aalto — thank you for an incredible adventure.
