CityUHK Discovery@World Programme (CDWP) is a summer programme series tailored to encourage undergraduate students from varied academic and financial backgrounds to gain non-local learning experience before graduating from the University.
Discover the world in a month with CDWP and you will:
Acquire more knowledge of the host country including its language, politics, economy, society, history, identity and culture.
Appreciate cultural diversity and develop open-mindedness towards different cultures which would be useful for future career development.
Explore and enhance global perspective through theme-oriented studies, field trips, excursions and cultural learning activities.
Foster personal development, e.g., problem-solving and critical thinking abilities, interpersonal and multicultural communication skills, etc.

The Stanford Summer Session attracts students from around the world, fostering a diverse and inclusive community. This international environment enriches the learning experience and provides opportunities for cultural exchange.
Key Features:
- An opportunity to set yourself apart, explore career paths, and join a global network from over 60 countries.
- With events happening every day, from dorm-based get-togethers, to Bay Area exploration, to behind-the-scenes visits to labs and spaces across campus
- Enroll in a minimum of 8 credit-bearing units (typically 2-3 courses)
Admission Requirements:
- Completed first year of study
- CGPA: no specific, however, Stanford requires your transcript and school profile could tell about your school and academic achievements. (Please refer to "Application Information")
- English Language proficiency (for non-native English speakers):
IELTS: Academics with a minimum overall band score of 7.0
#Successful applicants are required to settle all necessary fees, not limited to flight tickets, programme fees, accommodation fees, and other expenses to Stanford University and external parties. Subsidies will be reimbursed after completion of the programme.

The programme allows participants to learn more about the historical and contemporary developments of Eastern and Central Europe, including a special focus on Prague. Participants can also join numerous cultural and social activities, such as museum visits, excursions and café outings.

Eligibility
- All full-time UGC-funded undergraduate students of CityUHK
- Meet the admission requirements (if any) listed for the specific programme
Priority will be given to students who meet any of the following conditions:
- Never participated in any 4-week or above university-organised non-local learning programmes
- In their final year of study
Application

- Result Announcement: From late February 2026 via email
(Each programme has a quota, so we cannot accept all applications)
Successful applicants will be informed to complete offer acceptance and payment procedures (via CityUHK pay) thereafter. Offer recipients will be nominated to the organiser of the selected programme. Students will be informed in due course on how to proceed next to the official registration procedures. The final admission decision rests with the programme organiser.
Programme Fee
The University provides funding support to subsidize a major part of student's direct costs.
The listed programme fee# is the amount to be paid by each participant, which covers :
- Airfare between Hong Kong and the Destination*
- Accommodation
- Tuition Fee
- Activity Fee
#This fee may change based on the University’s final funding approval.
In addition to the programme fee, each student is responsible for their personal expenses such as meals (unless specified otherwise), visa applications, daily travel, healthcare, and insurance etc.
*IMPORTANT NOTE: students are required to stay at the host university throughout the program and must travel together as a group; early or late departures from Hong Kong are not allowed. To offer flexibility, students may adjust their return dates and locations. However, any additional costs from changing flight dates are the student's responsibility, and they must handle these changes directly with the travel agent.

Programme participants may also apply for the subsidy schemes provided by the HKSAR Government:

Notes to Applicant
- Details, schedules and course lists of all CDWP programmes are subject to change without prior notice.
- GEO reserves the right to cancel any programme(s) if deemed necessary without prior notice.
- Failure to submit any of the required documents will constitute an incomplete submission, and the application will NOT be processed.
- Application results will be announced via email from late February 2026. Students whose applications are successful will be informed further to complete offer acceptance and payment procedures (via CityUHK Pay) for the programme fee by the payment deadline. Every programme will have its payment deadlines. GEO reserves the right to withdraw an offer should any student fail to submit the programme fee by the payment deadline.
- The paid programme fee is non-refundable and non-transferable under normal circumstances. Participants will receive the programme fee refund (full/ partial refund) if their assigned CDWP programmes are called off by CityUHK/ programme organiser before the programme commencement date. The refundable amount could only be confirmed after we take the incurred/ paid amounts by the University (e.g. purchased air ticket) into consideration.
- Participants are required to submit a written notice of withdrawal via email to GEO if they want to withdraw from the assigned CDWP programmes and no refund of the paid programme fee will be arranged. No subsidy nor compensation will be provided for any expenses incurred by students, including but not limited to, insurance, visa application and personal expenses. GEO reserves the right to withdraw an offer should any student fail to submit the programme fee by the payment deadline.
- Participants are required to attend all briefing sessions, pre-trip meetings, classes and activities, and take the examinations and course assessments as requested by the programme organiser.
- Participants are expected to travel together with the group and participate in all arranged programme activities. They are not allowed to depart early under normal circumstances (contact us at cdwp.geo@cityu.edu.hk if your case is special, for example, travelling back to Hong Kong for an emergency).
- Participants shall comply with the terms of participation, attendance requirements, pass all course(s), code and conduct, rules and regulations of the host institution, and laws and customs of the host country.
- Each programme participant should submit (i) a 1000-word reflective report (in English) AND (ii) 10 quality photos. All participants of the programme should also work together on a 2-mintue self-filmed video for submission by 31 August 2026.
- Students are required to settle caution money of HKD3,000 (via CityUHK Pay) when accepting the CDWP offer from the University. Refund of caution money will be arranged when a student has completed the CDWP to the satisfaction of the University and has submitted all required documents to testify to satisfactory programme completion. Should a student fail to complete the CDWP in full satisfaction or withdraw from the programme after accepting the offer, whether before or after departure, the caution money will be forfeited. Caution money may be refunded within 6-months from the beginning of the CDWP.
- Participants shall consult with their home College/ School/ Department for their study plan and credit transfer arrangements (if needed). Check with the relevant unit before departure, and after returning from the programme:
