CityUHK inspires over 200 secondary students through aerospace discovery lecture

To broaden students' horizons in aerospace technology while fostering their interest in innovation and national development, City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK), in collaboration with the Sha Tin District Office and the Sha Tin District Youth Network, organised the "Space Voyage Discovery Lecture: Charting a New Chapter of the Country's Aerospace Development with Shenzhou-23" on 9 July at the Lee Shau Kee Student Residence Village. The event attracted more than 200 students from Lok Sin Tong Young Ko Hsiao Lin Secondary School, TWGHs Mrs Fung Wong Fung Ting College, Baptist Lui Ming Choi Secondary School, PLK C.W. Chu College, and Shatin Pui Ying College.

The event commenced with welcoming remarks by Professor Steve Wong Hang, Associate Vice-President (Community Engagement) of CityUHK, who welcomed students to the Lee Shau Kee Student Residence Village and encouraged them to make the most of the opportunity to learn from CityUHK experts, deepen their understanding of the country's aerospace development, and explore future possibilities in science and innovation.

The highlight of the programme was an inspiring lecture delivered by Professor Zhang Peng, Associate Professor from the Department of Mechanical Engineering. Through an engaging and accessible presentation, Professor Zhang introduced the development of rocket science and China's achievements in aerospace technology, while sharing CityUHK's research in rocket combustion. He also encouraged students to stay curious, embrace challenges and pursue their aspirations through continuous learning.

Following the lecture, students learnt more about campus life through a video introduction to the Lee Shau Kee Student Residence Village. They also wrote messages of encouragement and best wishes to Hong Kong's first payload specialist astronaut, Ms Lai Ka-ying, expressing their support for the country's aerospace development.
