CityUHK ignites AI education and team-based learning for over 240 teachers from Lok Sin Tong affiliated primary schools

On 7 November 2025, over 240 principals and teachers from Lok Sin Tong’s five primary schools gathered at City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) for the Lok Sin Tong Affiliated Primary Schools Joint School Teacher Development Day 2025, a full-day exploration of AI and team-based learning.

Professor Chan Chi Hou, Vice-President (Community Engagement) of CityUHK, opened the event by emphasising the need for professional growth in a rapidly evolving tech landscape. “In this fast-changing era, teachers must equip themselves to ignite students’ curiosity and creativity, while shifting from teaching-centric to inspirational, interactive, and innovative learning,” he said.
In appreciation of CityUHK’s support, Ms Lee Pui-Ah, Chairlady of The Lok Sin Tong Benevolent Society, Kowloon (the Society), Ms Wan Man-wai, the First Vice-Chairlady of the Society, and Mr Mok Man Too, the former chairman of the Society, presented a souvenir to Professor Chan.
The morning featured two thought-provoking keynotes. Professor Lin Fen, Associate Vice-President (Global Strategy), delivered “AI x Art: Imagination Education in the New Era”, illustrating how AI is redefining creative education. Professor Condon Lau, Department of Physics, followed with “Generative AI for Teaching and Learning of Mathematics”, sharing digital tools to enhance mathematical teaching and learning.

In the afternoon, the teachers were divided into four groups to attend workshops. Professor Wang Shiqi, Associate Dean of College of Computing, and Professor Clint Ho, Associate Head of Department of Data Science, led parallel workshops to demonstrate the practical skills of using various AI platforms. Dr Lei Chi Un and Mr Marco Leung from Talent and Education Development Office facilitated the Cross-Venue Team-Based Learning Starter Workshop, guiding the teachers to learn how they can design and deliver live, cross-classroom collaborative activities powered by digital platforms for their students.

With the efforts of CityUHK’s expertise in AI from various departments, the day concluded with meaningful exchanges, practical digital resources, and a shared vision for AI-enabled, learning-centric education. The event underscored CityUHK’s commitment to fostering innovative learning and navigating challenges in the rapid changing environment together with the local schools.
