During my university life, I participated in a wide range of extra-curricular activities, including those organized by the SEN Support Services and Student Development Services (SDS). These activities offered me a great opportunity to expand my social network and laid a solid foundation for my future career as an Executive Officer (EO) in the HKSAR Government.
My university experience boosted my confidence and broadened my social network. Through engaging in the Let Me Shine Program organised by the SEN Support Services such as glass-blowing and Chinese ink art workshops, I created my own unique artifacts. Although the processes were somehow challenging, successfully completing the final products greatly increased my self-confidence. Additionally, by participating in the Beijing barrier-free discovery tour, I had the opportunity to expand my social network through interactions with peers at the tour.
At CityUHK, I also actively engaged in the Student Ambassador (SA) Program organised by the SDS. The SA Program included both workshops such as public speaking sessions and services like providing campus tours for visitors. Attending the public speaking workshops enhanced my confidence in presentation, while organising campus tours had strengthened my skills in communicating with people from different walks of life.
My university experiences at CityUHK —including the government summer internship program and the Service Leadership Training Program (SLTP)—laid a solid foundation for my career as an Executive Officer (EO) for Hong Kong SAR Government. In my first year of study, I was nominated by the university to participate in the Correctional Services Department summer internship program, at where I assisted an EO in summarizing performance reports. During this internship, I realized that an EO can play a crucial role in implementing policies and making a meaningful difference in society. The internship inspired me to learn more about various social issues. To gain further insights, I served as a member of The Forgotten Side of the City, one of the service teams from the SLTP. Our aim was to promote cultural issues that have often been neglected by society. By organising activities like visits to bus depots with autistic children and a neon sign culture exhibition, I gained more knowledge about these sociocultural issues and had sharpened my event-planning and collaboration skills. These skills are invaluable for my career, especially when organizing events with various stakeholders.
In conclusion, various extra-curricular programmes at CityUHK have provided me invaluable opportunities to improve my confidence, expand my social network, establish my career aspiration, and enhance my event management skills - a solid foundation for my career as an Executive Officer.
