Protecting Yourself from Scams
1. Mandatory Anti-Deception Quiz
To foster a safe campus environment, the University strongly encourages all students to stay alert on preventing deception. To increase your awareness of common scams and tactics used by fraudsters, and equip yourself on how to protect yourself from fallen prey to scam, you are required to complete the Anti-Deception Quiz with 100% accuracy no later than 30 September 2026. Students who do not complete the above quiz by the deadline will experience a temporary suspension of digital services (e.g. AIMS, CityUHK Portal, CityUHK Mobile App, etc.) until requirements are fulfilled.
Log in to Canvas, select “Courses” → “Anti-Deception Quiz”
For more information about the most recent fraud trends and strategies, please visit the website of the Anti-Deception Coordination Centre (ADCC) under the Hong Kong Police Force.
For enquiries, please contact SDS Activity Team at sdssat@cityu.edu.hk.
2. Stay Protected: Download Scameter+ for Smarter Anti-Scam Defence
To strengthen your protection against scams, students are encouraged to download Scameter+, the anti-deception app developed by the Hong Kong Police Force.
The functions, Call Alert and Website Detection, in Scameter+ automatically compare incoming calls and visited websites against the latest scam database, which is updated and pushed to users’ devices daily. If a potential scam or cyber security risk is detected, the app will issue a real-time warning alert, reminding users to stay vigilant and avoid falling into traps.
For more details, please the official Scameter website or scan the QR code below to download the app.
