Congratulations to Dr. Angus Lam for successfully passing the examination to become a member of the Veterinary Epidemiology Chapter of the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists (ANZCVS). This significant achievement is a testament to his professional expertise and dedication to the field of veterinary epidemiology.

Authored by over 150 experts from diverse disciplines, the One Health Atlas explores the interconnectedness of human, animal, and environmental health and addresses critical issues such as zoonotic diseases and food security, offering innovative solutions for a healthier and more sustainable future.

Theethawat Jaii Uea-anuwong, PhD student from City University of Hong Kong and member of the Centre for Applied One Health Research and Policy Advice alongside other researchers, published their work on whole-metagenome shotgun sequencing (WMS) to characterize the gut microbiome of 88 wild rats trapped in urban areas, livestock farms, and horse stables. Among 9,672 identified ARGs, aminoglycosides, macrolide-lincosamide-streptogramin, and chloramphenicol were notably more prevalent in rats from livestock farms.

From June 10th to 13th, Prof. Sergio Guerrero Sanchez and Dr. Angus Lam represented the OHRP at the second and final general meeting of the LANCET/PPATS Commission for Prevention of Viral Spillover at the Source, which took place at the Future Africa campus of the University of Pretoria.

Mr. Aaron Chi Fai Leung, the Head Technical Officer of The City University of Hong Kong Aquatic Veterinary Ambulatory Service, was invited as a guest speaker for the topic “One Health Approach in Aquatic Animal Health Enhancing Biosecurity and Disease Management in Fish Farming” for The School of Clinical Medicine, The University of Hong Kong on 2nd April 2025. There were around 55 students who attended.

During a three-day meeting at the World Organisation of Animal Health's Headquarters in Paris, held from 8-10 April 2025, Prof. Dirk Pfeiffer, Prof. Sergio Guerrero-Sanchez and Dr. Angus Lam from CityUHK's Centre for Applied One Health Research and Policy Advice presented their draft guidelines for HPAI surveillance among small-scale poultry holders in resource-limited settings to an Ad Hoc group chaired by Dr Robyn Alders for review and discussion.

As pandemic risks increase, Sergio Guerrero Sanchez from OHRP, Comment in the Lancet along with colleagues from the Lancet/PPTAS Commission on the Prevention of Viral Spillover, examines the challenges of pandemic prevention.

In recognition of his contribution to the field of veterinary epidemiology, preventive medicine and economics, Prof Dirk Pfeiffer received an honorary life membership of the Society for Veterinary Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine at its Annual Conference and General Meeting in Berlin on 27 March 2025.

Prof Dirk Pfeiffer gave a keynote presentation entitled “Epidemiology and One Health for tackling real-world complex challenges” as part of a scientific webinar with the theme “Bridging Knowledge Across Borders: Connecting Peers, Sharing Evidence, Building Trust” hosted by FAO at ViV Asia 2025 on 12 March 2025 as part of launching a new virtual hub supporting the Asia-Pacific veterinary epidemiology peer-to-peer network (ENTRVST)

Prof Dirk Pfeiffer gave a keynote talk entitled "The Role of Veterinary Public Health in an Increasingly Complex World" at the Hong Kong Government’s Food and Environmental Hygiene Department’s Veterinary Public Health Workshop 2025, which had the theme "Advancing Food Safety — Strategies and Challenges".
