Dissecting the gut microbial communities and resistomes of wild rats from different ecological areas in Hong Kong
Theethawat Jaii Uea-anuwong, PhD student from City University of Hong Kong and member of the Centre for Applied One Health Research and Policy Advice alongside other researchers, published their work on whole-metagenome shotgun sequencing (WMS) to characterize the gut microbiome of 88 wild rats trapped in urban areas, livestock farms, and horse stables. Among 9,672 identified ARGs, aminoglycosides, macrolide-lincosamide-streptogramin, and chloramphenicol were notably more prevalent in rats from livestock farms.
LANCET/PPATS Commission for Prevention of Viral Spillover at the Source
From June 10th to 13th, Prof. Sergio Guerrero Sanchez and Dr. Angus Lam represented the OHRP at the second and final general meeting of the LANCET/PPATS Commission for Prevention of Viral Spillover at the Source, which took place at the Future Africa campus of the University of Pretoria.
One Health Approach in Aquatic Animal Health Enhancing Biosecurity and Disease Management in Fish Farming
Mr. Aaron Chi Fai Leung, the Head Technical Officer of The City University of Hong Kong Aquatic Veterinary Ambulatory Service, was invited as a guest speaker for the topic “One Health Approach in Aquatic Animal Health Enhancing Biosecurity and Disease Management in Fish Farming” for The School of Clinical Medicine, The University of Hong Kong on 2nd April 2025. There were around 55 students who attended.
CityUHK OHRP's Guidelines for HPAI Surveillance amongst small-scale poultry holders in resource-limited settings for WOAH
During a three-day meeting at the World Organisation of Animal Health's Headquarters in Paris, held from 8-10 April 2025, Prof. Dirk Pfeiffer, Prof. Sergio Guerrero-Sanchez and Dr. Angus Lam from CityUHK's Centre for Applied One Health Research and Policy Advice presented their draft guidelines for HPAI surveillance among small-scale poultry holders in resource-limited settings to an Ad Hoc group chaired by Dr Robyn Alders for review and discussion.

In recognition of his contribution to the field of veterinary epidemiology, preventive medicine and economics, Prof Dirk Pfeiffer received an honorary life membership of the Society for Veterinary Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine at its Annual Conference and General Meeting in Berlin on 27 March 2025.
