Materials Sciences discipline ranked #1 in Hong Kong in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2026 , achieving a Hong Kong 'Grand Slam' across QS, ShanghaiRanking, U.S. News subject rankings, for the 1st time!

We are delighted to announce that CityUHK has achieved #1 in Hong Kong and a global ranking of #39 for Materials Sciences in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2026  — a significant leap from our previous position of #2 in Hong Kong and #52 globally in 2025.

The QS subject rankings are evaluated based on five indicators: three data-based (Citations, H-index, and International Research Network) and two survey-based (Academic Reputation and Employer Reputation). This achievement reflects the dedication and excellence of our faculty members and research staff.

2023 - 2026 QS Global Ranking Overview (Major Hong Kong Universities - Materials Sciences):

From 2023 to 2026, Materials Sciences discipline in CityUHK has demonstrated a consistent upward trajectory in global rankings, climbing steadily while maintaining its top position in Hong Kong. This achievement highlights not only our robust global progress but also our sustained leadership locally in Materials Sciences. Remarkably, our citation-per-paper indicator ranks#2 worldwide in 2026, underscoring the high impact and recognition of our peer-reviewed research.

We are especially delighted to share that CityUHK has achieved a 'Grand Slam' in MSE field, ranking #1 in Hong Kong across all three global subject rankings: ShanghaiRanking 2025, U.S. News & World Report 2025-2026, and QS Rankings 2026 (THE does not have a subject ranking for MSE field). This triple crown is a powerful recognition of our sustained excellence and leadership in the MSE field, both locally and on the world stage.
