DUMANAUW Christian Anthony (Computer Science) embarked on a spring exchange at Dalhousie University — a semester filled with challenges, personal growth, and unforgettable moments.
My first long-haul flight was a leap into the unknown, and being on the other side of the world was both thrilling and a little overwhelming. But any nerves quickly faded when I arrived and was greeted by the warmth and hospitality of the people there.
While it took some time to find my place in classes, as many students already had established friend groups, this turned into an opportunity to explore new communities. Attending a local church service led me to discover a vibrant young adult group. After reaching out on Instagram, I was warmly welcomed to their events, where I met amazing new friends — including several who also study at Dalhousie University — and enjoyed activities such as potlucks, playing board games, and watching movies.
Academically, the learning style felt familiar, but I appreciated the challenge of a heavier workload filled with engaging assignments and quizzes. One of my favourite experiences was a Software Engineering Practices course, where my teammates and I developed an Android app. The project had its hurdles, but it was incredibly rewarding to see our work come to life.
Beyond the classroom, Halifax proved to be a city full of charm and history. From savoring local delicacies to exploring landmarks like the Citadel and the Titanic Museum, every day brought something new to discover. My exchange not only deepened my academic and professional skills but also broadened my perspective on the world. I left Nova Scotia with a full heart, wonderful friendships, and a strong desire to return one day.
