CHONG Wen Rong

Toronto Metropolitan University

CHONG Wen Rong, from the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences, joined the Student Exchange Programme at CityUHK and spent a semester at Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) in Canada.

My exchange experience at Toronto Metropolitan University was irreplaceable. Upon my arrival, I experienced a vibrant and diverse community that felt truly inclusive.

The exchange program significantly enriched my academic and personal growth. The university made my learning experience engaging and inspiring by offering various activities, such as free tickets to hockey matches, and creating a WhatsApp group for all exchange students to stay connected, support each other, and hold meetings outside the campus.

The courses I took were interesting, and the teaching style was quite different. For example, one professor teaching about popular culture informed us that there would be no syllabus in the first week, instead encouraging discussions on trending social media topics. Most classes required active participation, making it easier to grasp the material. This gave me the opportunity to collaborate with students from diverse backgrounds, fostering lasting friendships.

Beyond academics, Toronto is a city rich in culture and experiences. I explored its history by visiting museums, connecting with diverse roommates, and enjoying stunning natural beauty such as Niagara Falls. This city broadened my horizons and offered valuable insights into global perspectives that are often underrated.

This exchange program gifted me countless priceless memories. I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to study at TMU and to explore Toronto and nearby cities.
