The Creation of LIU Mengmei in the Youth Version of Peony Pavilion

Since its premiere in 2004, the youth version of Peony Pavilion has been performed more than 540 times around the world, earning widespread acclaim. YU Jiulin's portrayal of LIU Mengmei stands out for his wonderful performance and unique temperament, beautifully capturing the character’s depth and emotional range on the stage. 

In this lecture, he will guide us in appreciating the beauty of the youth version of Peony Pavilion from his unique perspective, using LIU Mengmei as a representative figure to introduce Kunqu opera performance.

Speaker: YU Jiulin, National Class I Performer. He was coached by YUE Meiti, SHI Xiaomei and WANG Shiyu. He specialises in Jinsheng (scholar male) roles. He was awarded the Plum Blossom Award for Chinese Theatre and a Performance Award at the first Kunqu Opera Festival in China.
