CityUHK’s College of Engineering excels in QS World University Rankings by Subject 2026 with Materials Science ranking No. 1 in Hong Kong
CityUHK’s Materials Science and Veterinary Science which have been in the global top 100 for two consecutive years, both rank No. 1 in Hong Kong this year.

 

City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) has excelled in the he Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings by Subject 2026, with the College of Engineering achieving standout success. Materials Science has surged an impressive 13 places from 52nd to 39th globally, securing the No.1 position in Hong Kong for the first time across all major ranking systems. Engineering -Engineering Mechanical, Aeronautical & Manufacturing, and Materials Science have delivered strong performances, driven by world-leading citations per paper, both ranking 2nd globally.

 

The remarkable climb of Materials Science to world No. 39 (HK number 1) reflects exceptional research impact, with citations per paper ranked 2nd globally (98.9/100).  It leads in Hong Kong across multiple prestigious rankings, including the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2026, ShanghaiRanking's Global Ranking of Academic Subjects, the U.S. News and World Report Global University Ranking by Subjects, and the Essential Science Indicators rankings by Clarivate.

 

According to QS, the following engineering-related subjects have strong performance in citation paper:

  • Engineering & Technology in Broad subject areas (#11 globally)
  • Engineering – Mechanical, Aeronautical & Manufacturing and Engineering (#2 globally)
  • Engineering - Electrical & Electronic (#13 globally)
  • Engineering - Architecture/Built Environment (#11 globally)

 

These achievements underscore CityUHK Engineering's sustained progress and unwavering commitment to research excellence. It aligns with broader accolades, including 120 faculty members are named among “World’s Top 2% Scientists 2025” by Stanford University and 19 scholars from the College recognised as “Highly Cited Researchers” by Clarivate in 2025.
