The Cultural Exchange Oasis (CXO) of City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK), in collaboration with the Consulate General of Turkiye in Hong Kong, hosted an enchanting event titled “Connecting to the World Performance: A Signature Turkish Music Experience on Campus” on 28 March 2025. Nearly 600 enthusiastic attendees gathered to celebrate the rich musical traditions of Turkiye.

Renowned Turkish artists Ahmet Baran (Qanun), Ayşe Özge Erdem (Violin), Burak Altuni (Guitar), and Burak Çakır (Drums) delivered a mesmerizing performance, seamlessly blending classical and folk influences. Professor Wenjung Li, Vice-President (Talent and International Strategy) at CityUHK, delivered the welcoming address, emphasizing the university’s commitment to fostering global connections. “Through this performance, we will witness the artistry and passion that define Turkish musical heritage, gaining insight into a culture that has profoundly influenced the world,” he said. “This event exemplifies our ongoing efforts to create meaningful opportunities for cultural exchange, celebrating and preserving cultural heritage.”

Mr. Kerim Sercan Evcin, Consul General of the Republic of Türkiye in Hong Kong SAR, echoed these sentiments and highlighted the significance of cultural diplomacy. “I hope this event will be a turning point for more interaction between our universities and CityUHK, and I believe tonight we will see how music serves as the super-connector in the geography of the Belt and Road project,” he remarked.

The event left a lasting impression on attendees, many of whom expressed enthusiasm for future cultural exchanges. “Very much an eye-opening experience. Please organise more various cultural events!” shared one of the participants. “As a Turkish student, I would like to participate in more activities related to Turkish culture. I would even like to volunteer in these events.” another audience added.
