The covered wooden arch bridge is a structurally unique type of bridge that reflects remarkable ancient bridge-building technology and is acclaimed as a Chinese marvel. Believed to have originated during the Song dynasty, this bridge bears a strong resemblance to the rainbow bridge depicted in the famous Chinese painting Along the River During the Qingming Festival, leading experts to consider it a surviving reference  for that historical structure. In 2024, UNESCO inscribed the "Traditional design and practices for building Chinese wooden arch bridges" on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. The committee noted that Chinese wooden arch bridges embody the values of harmonious coexistence between humans and nature. The bridges, the builders, and the traditional techniques and knowledge of arch bridge construction are integral parts of the cultural ecosystem of local villages. Wooden arch bridges serve as both channels and as cultural spaces, strengthening community cohesion and cultural identity.

Through this exhibition, lecture, and demonstration, the Cultural Exchange Oasis aims to provide the audience with an in-depth understanding of this “living fossil” of bridge engineering, constructed with woven structures and mortise-and-tenon joinery.
