Prof. Yves BAMBERGER

Graduated from Ecole Polytechnique (Paris), Yves began his career as structural mechanics research engineer in a French national lab, while also teaching at Ecole Nationale des Ponts & Chausséees. He worked on vibrations and ultrasonic waves for non-destructive testing.


He joined Electricité de France R&D in 1980, to contribute to numerical modelling related to EDF’s activities, especially nuclear plants, while continuing as adjunct professor. In his successive positions, especially as Technical Director and VP of the Generation and Transmissions Division, then as CIO, Yves became a driving force behind what is now known as the digital transformation of the company. From 2002, as director of EDF R&D (2000 employees), he gave impulse to the research on electro-technologies on the user side, on photovoltaic energy, on smartgrids and on power electric systems in the context of climate change.


Yves has been member of different scientific councils in France and abroad. Past positions include member of the Board of the Electric Power Research Institute in Palo Alo (US). In 2021, he published with Teddy Püttgen the book “Electricity: Humanity’s low-carbon future”.


Yves is a founding member and President Honoris Causa of the National French Academy of Technologies. Yves is an Officer of the Legion d’Honneur.
