Group Study Rooms and Study Carrels
Two Group Study Rooms, one equipped with digital presentation
facilities and the other with group
viewing facilities, are available for loan to eligible users who need
a place to carry out group discussions and presentation.
Users, however, are reminded to keep their voice down in order not to
disturb other library users.
Lockable single/double Study Carrels are available for loan to
different categories of eligible users on either a daily or hourly basis.
These carrels provide a quiet, private and secluded place to study.

Staff and Students
Staff and students of programmes leading to CityU awards are eligible to make advance bookings for the Group Study Rooms and Study Carrels via the Library Room, Carrel & PC Workstation Booking System.
Alumni Library Ticket (Borrower) Holders
Alumni Library Ticket (Borrower) holders may make same day bookings of the Hourly Study Carrels at the Circulation Counter.

* During the Revision and Examination Period, Group Study Room 301 and 302 will
be converted into study area and online booking will be suspended.
Locations of Group Study Rooms and Study Carrels
Equipment Available in Group Study Rooms
Room 301 is installed with:
- LCD monitor
- Multidisc player
- Videocassette player
- Audio cassette deck
- Wireless LAN coverage
Room 302 is installed with:
- LCD projector
- Mounted screen and white board
- Wireless LAN coverage
(Users may bring in their own computer notebook or portable video equipment.)
Booking Policy for Staff and Students
- Bookings should be made online via the Library Room, Carrel & PC Workstation Booking System. Users may also delete or view their reservations online via the same system.
- All available time slots are reserved on a first-come-first-served basis.
- Hours for booking are confined to the Circulation Counter service hours.
- Reservations can be made three days in advance, or four days ahead on Fridays.
- Each time slot is a one-hour session which starts at every half-hour, i.e., 09:30, 19:30 etc.
- The total number of time slots that can be made at any one time is limited to 4 and the 4 bookings can be a combination of 4 one-hour sessions of different types of rooms, or for the case of staff and postgraduate students, it can be the booking of all sessions for the same daily study carrel within the same day.
- Each user will be given an annual reservation hours of 800 hours.
- Reservation system access will be denied when the reservation account expires.
Booking Policy for Alumni
- Bookings should be made in person at the Circulation Counter.
- Only same day bookings (subject to the availability of Hourly Study Carrels at the time of bookings) are accepted.
- Hours for booking are confined to the Circulation Counter service hours.
- Each time slot is a one-hour session which starts at every half-hour, i.e., 09:30, 19:30 etc.
- The total number of time slots that can be made at any one time is limited to 4, i.e. 4 hours.
- The service will be suspended for alumni during the Revision and Examination Periods of Semesters A and B in each academic year.
- Users are required to deposit their Alumni Library Tickets when they obtain the keys at the Circulation Counter.
Accessing the Library Room, Carrel & PC Workstation Booking System (For Staff & Students Only*)
- Users may access the Library Room, Carrel & PC Workstation Booking System directly and login with your <Electronic ID> and the corresponding <Password>.
- Users may also access the System through
CityU e-Portal. Under <FACILITIES BOOKING> of <Univ. Services>, click on <Library Room, Carrel & PC
Workstation Booking>.
- Please refer to the Library Room, Carrel & PC Workstation Booking System - Help Menu for instructions on using the System.
- * Alumni Library Ticket (Borrower) holders cannot access the System and they have to make same day bookings of the Hourly Study Carrels in person at the Circulation Counter.
Checking In and Out
- Users are required to fetch
the keys for the booked carrels/rooms at the Circulation Counter on time. Alumni Library Ticket (Borrower) Holders, however, are also required to deposit
their Tickets when they obtain the keys. If a user is late for
the first 30 minutes of any reserved hour, the Library reserves
the right to forfeit a booking hour and allow the next user or
any patron to use the remaining hour as deemed appropriate without
further notice.
- When the booked sessions have expired, users are required to turn off the lights of the room, resume the original
equipment and furniture setting of the rooms, lock the rooms, and return the keys immediately to the Circulation Counter. Any accessories obtained from the Circulation Counter must also be returned.
Alumni Library Ticket (Borrower) Holders will get back their Tickets
when they return the keys.
- During Examination Periods, Semester Breaks, and on Saturdays and Sundays of Term Time, the Circulation Counter closing hours will be earlier than the Library closing hours. Study carrel users who have booked the last session of the day (ending at half an hour just before the Circulation Counter closing hours) and prefer to use the carrels after the Library Circulation Counter Service Hours may return the keys within the same working day to the security guard when the Circulation Counter is closed.
Conduct of Users
- Please remove all personal belongings from the Group
Study Rooms / Study Carrels before returning the keys to the Circulation
Counter. The Library will remove anything left behind with the
presence of a witness. No prior notice will be given.
- Do not leave any valuables in the Group Study
Rooms / Study Carrels (even though the users are temporarily away). The Library
is not responsible for any loss of personal property.
- Do not lock in the Group Study Rooms / Study Carrels
any library books that have not been borrowed or any in-house use materials
(e.g. reference books, journals, newspapers, etc.) The Library has the
right to remove any library materials found.
- Any damage / disorder of furniture or fixtures in the Group Study
Rooms / Study Carrels should be reported to the Circulation
Counter at once. In case of misuse or negligence, users will be held
responsible for the total cost incurred for repair or replacement.
- The Group Study Rooms / Study Carrels are strictly for academic use only.
- Do not eat or drink inside the Group Study Rooms / Study Carrels.
- Do not cover the window screens on the doors.
- The Group Study Rooms / Study Carrels should be kept clean and tidy all the time. Please dispose of any rubbish, old newspapers, used tissue papers and so on properly.
- Noise and voice must be kept to the lowest possible level.
- Users should not transfer the booking or usage to other university members or outsiders.
- Please observe Library Regulations at all times.
Important Notes to Users
- There should be at least 2 or 4 users using Group Study Room 301 and 302 respectively at any one time even though only one representative is required to do the booking. The Library reserves the right to refuse lending out the Group Study Rooms if it is found that the rooms are not occupied by the expected number of users.
- The Library reserves the right to inspect the Group Study Rooms / Study Carrels even if they are in use.
- The Library reserves the right to refuse lending the Group Study
Rooms / Study Carrels to any user who fails to observe the rules and regulations.
- If a user loses a key of the Group Study Rooms / Study Carrels, s/he is liable to pay the replacement cost.
- The Library has the final say on how to allocate the Group Study
Rooms / Study Carrels should there be any arguments among/from the users.
