ABSTRACT
Markov chains, ordinary differential equations (ODE) and stochastic ODE are three common frameworks employed to model general chemical reaction systems. In this expository talk, I will explain how stochastic analysis clarifies the subtle discrepancies among these modeling approaches and how these discrepancies yield insights to prediction and model selection. Concrete examples and open problems will be discussed if time permits
