The theme of this year’s competition is "Minimalism." Participating teams are required to design a minimalist bamboo landscape installation on the waterside platform, forested hard ground, or overwater boardwalks of the Nansha Waterbird World Park in Guangzhou. Additionally, the work must meet the requirements to envision a scenario or atmosphere suitable for rest or specific use, and to achieve relatively significant effects with relatively minimal use of bamboo materials. It is also required to use raw bamboo as the main structural material, with the option to incorporate other materials that are easy to procure.
The design of “Unfolding Feathers” draws inspiration from the form and lightness of bird feathers. The concept is translated into an unified structure that synthesizes multiple functions-an interactive installation, a shelter, seating, and a landmark. Through a minimalist formal language, an economy of materials, and a reduction of structural joints, the team has realized a design that is both poetic and purposeful.
Congratulations to the student team and Prof. Zheng for their amazing work!
