The seminar "Low-Altitude Economy — Opportunities and Prospects for Smart Housing and Property Management" organized by City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK), the Greater Bay Area Low-Altitude Economy Alliance (GBA LAEA), and the Smart City Consortium (SCC), took place on 13 March 2026. A huge thank you to our co-organizers including The Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH), The Hong Kong Institute of Facility Management (HKIFM), The Hong Kong Institute of Housing (HKIH) and The Hong Kong Institute of Surveyors (HKIS), as well as all the experts who joined us at the event!

The seminar opened with insightful remarks from Prof. Anderson SHUM, Vice-President (Research) of CityUHK; Ms. Winnie HO, JP, Secretary for Housing; and Hon. Elizabeth QUAT, SBS, JP, Legislative Council Member and Founding President of the GBA LAEA. The opening was followed by keynote speeches from Prof. LI Lishuai, Associate Vice-President (Strategic Research) & Professor at the Department of Data Science of CityUHK; and Prof. DAI Jianguo, Head & Chair Professor of Structural Engineering at Department of Architecture and Civil Engineering of CityUHK, who explored the structural and analytical foundations of low-altitude infrastructure. This academic perspective was then put into practice through three industry sessions led by seasoned leaders and experts, including Sr Dr Paul TSUI, CEO of Esri China (HK) Ltd; Prof. Weisong WEN, Assistant Professor at PolyU; and Mr. Desmond HO, CEO of Alpha AI Technology Ltd. Further insights were shared by Mr. Michael TSANG, Business Development Director (Government & Enterprise) of China Mobile Hong Kong; Mr. TANG Ho-ching, Chief Technology Advisor of Innovic Technology (China Telecom Global); and Ms. Fiona LAI, Assistant Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data (Legal) of the Office of the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data (PCPD). These sessions focused on the real-world integration of drone technology into smart housing and property management, while also addressing critical data privacy considerations within Hong Kong’s high-density urban environment.

The seminar concluded with an engaging panel discussion and Q&A session, where the keynote speakers and industry leaders converged to address the practicalities of implementing a low-altitude economy. The dialogue bridged the gap between academic theory and commercial application. Finally, Mr. Gary YEUNG, MH, President of the SCC and Honorary Secretary of LAEA, delivered the concluding remarks, emphasizing the importance of cross-sector collaboration and a robust digital infrastructure to ensure Hong Kong's development in the low-altitude economy.
