Abstract:

The presentation will provide an overview of a number of key issues affecting building design in the UK and in Europe, in particular the forthcoming energy code in the UK which will enable the UK to be back on track on the CO2 emission reduction target. This forthcoming energy code will have significant impact on the way a building is designed and operated.

Prototyping is an extremely useful tool to help the client and designers to realise their inspirations. It integrates various modelling techniques and is both reactive and proactive in the overall design procedure. Using project examples, this presentation will illustrate how different advanced computational simulation and analysis tools have been used to provide building prototyping for energy and environmental analysis. These project examples will demonstrate how the problems have been tackled in practice and how prototyping can give significant added value to the projects.
