Inauguration of the Hongqiao Cerebro-Cardiovascular Health Guardian Programme: A Milestone for Community Health
On 25 October, City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) held the inauguration ceremony for the Hongqiao Cerebro-Cardiovascular (C2) Health Guardian Programme. The event marks a significant milestone in multi-lateral collaboration among CityUHK, government departments, NGOs and businesses to address the community’s health and well-being needs.
The project, funded by China Hongqiao Group Limited, aims to promote healthcare and health awareness in the community through health screening activities. It leverages the innovative expertise of three technology partners, the Hong Kong Centre for Cerebro-cardiovascular Health Engineering (COCHE), SG Diagnostics, and Cimple Biotechnology Limited. This 18-month initiative will initially screen 5,000 residents of Light Public Housing (LPH) and Transitional Housing (TH) in Kwun Tong, Sham Shui Po, Sha Tin, and Tsuen Wan. In addition to providing accessible community-based health screening to promote healthcare awareness, the data collected will be used to generate actionable insights to support public health policy and promote social inclusion.
The inauguration ceremony was officiated by Professor Freddy Boey, President and University Distinguished Professor of CityUHK; Ms Au Yeung Man-sin, Political Assistant to the Secretary for Housing; Ms Christine Wong Yu-ting, Executive Director and Head of Corporate Finance of China Hongqiao Group Limited; Mr Gary Chu Tak-wing, Chairman of Yan Chai Hospital Board; and Professsor Chan Chi-hou, Vice-President (Community Engagement) of CityUHK.
Also attended the inauguration ceremony were Professor Steve Wong, Associate Vice-President (Community Engagement); Professor Kannie Chan, Director, COCHE; Dr Kate Qi, Founder & CEO of SG Diagnostics Pte Ltd; Professor Chen Ting-Hsuan, Founder, Cimple Biotechnology Limited, and Ms Kathy Chan, Associate Vice-President (Development).

The ceremony included a sharing session moderated by the project's Principal Investigator, Professor Steve Wong, and featuring the residents of Yan Chai Residence, who participated in the pilot run on September 13, 2025. They appreciated the availability of free and convenient service which is "right outside their doors" and the thoughtful "one-stop service" that connects health screening to essential follow-up care for vulnerable families.

The ceremony was followed by a free health screening focused on chronic diseases, including diabetes, hypertension, obesity, kidney failure risks, and carotid artery plaque detection. Security staff and cleaning staff from nearby residential buildings and the Lee Shau Kee Student Residence Village in Ma On Shan, as well as CityUHK staff and students took part at the health screening.
