CityUHK hosts “Together We Shine — A World Record Community Dance Supporting Inclusion and the Next Generation for a Sustainable Future” SDG World Records event

21 April 2026

City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK), together with the Scout Association of Hong Kong Kowloon Region and the Society of Boys’ Centres Chak Yan Centre School, hosted the “Together We Shine — A World Record Community Dance Supporting Inclusion and the Next Generation for a Sustainable Future” SDG World Record Event at Kai Tak Station Square on 19 April 2026. The event brought together around 1,400 participants for an aerobic performance that blended dance and martial arts, forming a symbolic rainbow to represent inclusion, hope, and the protection of children. It was officially recognised under the SDG World Record title “The Most Cumulative Participants in a Martial Arts-Inspired Dance Performance”, actively responding to four UN Sustainable Development Goals — SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being), SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities), and SDG 11 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions).

A highlight of the ceremony was the presentation of a fusion calligraphy character —combining the essence of martial arts and dance — created by Mr. Ng Kin Wai, President of the Hong Kong Wai Man Art's Association. This symbolic piece was presented to CityUHK and received by Professor Chan Chi-hou as a gesture of cultural artistry and community spirit.

The choreography of the world record dance was created by Ms. Katie Chan and Mr. Rego Sum, with Ms. Chan herself leading the SDG world record performance. Under the supervision of Mr Leo Lai, Official Adjudicator of the SDG World Records, participants dressed in rainbow colours performed a three-minute martial arts-inspired routine that was officially recognised as setting a new SDG world record.
