CityUHK won the 2024 Dayu Water Conservancy Science and Technology Progress Award (2nd Class) from the Chinese Hydraulic Engineering Society for eco-shoreline seawall technology, led by Prof Kenneth Leung, Dean of Energy and Environment. It is now at 8 sites in Hong Kong; the 3.8 km Tung Chung East eco-shoreline has documented over 90 marine species.
School of Energy and Environment postgraduates visited the Tseung Kwan O Desalination Plant (reverse osmosis with energy recovery) and the Sha Tin Water Treatment Plant (biogas-powered heat, power and micro-turbines), organised by Prof Sai Kishore Ravi, connecting water–energy nexus study to real infrastructure.
School of Energy and Environment final-year student Ms Lan Qingyang won the Impact Creator Award for a "Sustainable Offshore Floating Platform for Synergetic Energy–Water–Food Nexus," integrating floating solar PV, solar-driven desalination (~2.8 L of freshwater per m²) and drip-irrigation farming.
Prof Zhiguo Yuan, Chair Professor of Urban Water Management, delivered the talk "Earth, Water, You and Me" at Stamford American School Hong Kong's Career Day (6 Jun 2025), demonstrating a simple UV disinfection device that can provide safe drinking water for families in underdeveloped regions.
