An article, titled “Party Building or Noisy Signaling: The Contours of Political Conformity in Chinese Corporate Governance”, co-authored by CCCL Associate Director, Dr. Lauren Yu-Hsin Lin, and Professor Curtis J. Milhaupt, William F. Baxter-Visa International Professor of Law at Stanford Law School, was published with the Journal of Legal Studies.

This paper addresses an issue that has recently been highlighted in the US-China tensions—the linkages between Chinese companies and the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). This study provides new insights into these linkages, based on a novel empirical examination of a CCP “party-building” (dangjian) policy launched in 2015. The findings underscore the complex contours of political conformity in Chinese corporate governance.
