April 9, 2020

The Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences (VCS) was established on 31st March 2020 in the Jockey Club College of Veterinary Medicine and Life Sciences at CityU, Hong Kong. The clear vision of VCS is to be Asia’s pre-eminent body advancing veterinary clinical science in response to evolving societal needs.

Professor Julia Beatty, Acting Head of Department, said “We champion a collaborative, inclusive, multidisciplinary approach, bringing together researchers, academic clinicians, colleagues in practice and the local community for the benefit of animals, people and the planet. This is an exciting time to be in Hong Kong. Our international team is in a growth phase. We are working hard to attract outstanding new Faculty at all career stages and to strengthen partnerships in the region.” She added “This is an important milestone that builds on CityU’s pioneering work carried out over the past 10 years to establish Hong Kong’s first veterinary degree with our international partner, the College of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell University, one of the world’s top Veterinary Schools.”

The mission of the VCS department is to advance animal health and welfare through cutting edge clinical research to nurture research-trained, practice-ready, professional veterinary graduates, to establish Hong Kong’s first academic postgraduate veterinary residency-training programs and to give back to the local communities through service and outreach.
