Professor Chun-Sing Lee
Acting President
Professor Chun-Sing Lee is the Provost and Deputy President of City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK), where he also serves as Chair Professor of Department of Chemistry and the Department of Materials Science and Engineering. As Provost and Deputy President since 2023, Professor Lee oversees the University’s academic affairs and strategic development.
Professor Lee obtained his BSc in Mechanical Engineering and his PhD in Physical Metallurgy from the University of Hong Kong in 1987 and 1991, respectively. With the support of a Croucher Foundation Fellowship, he embarked on his research career at the University of Birmingham in the U.K.
Since joining CityUHK in 1994, Professor Lee has demonstrated distinguished academic leadership and a commitment to scientific innovation. In 1998, he co-founded the Centre of Super-Diamond and Advanced Films (COSDAF), serving as its Deputy Director (1998–2012) and later as Director (2012–2022). His leadership was instrumental in laying a solid foundation for the University’s long-term development in nanomaterials and nanotechnology, establishing CityUHK’s international leadership in these fields. Professor Lee’s previous administrative roles also include serving as the Head of the Department of Chemistry (2017–2021) and the Dean of the College of Science (2021–2023).
A world-renowned scholar specialising in organic electronic devices and nanomaterials, Professor Lee has made exceptional contributions to scientific research. He has been repeatedly recognised as a Highly Cited Researcher by Clarivate and consistently ranks among the World’s Top 2% Scientists by Stanford University.
