Important Notes for New Members

ALL the group members, especially new members, should read these tips, so that you can adopt more smoothly and make more achievements.

1. First of all: rules

You are working for yourselves: As a professor, my achievements are not only good research works, but more importantly successes of my group members. Therefore, our objectives are the same. Do what is best for “us”. A piece of good work is much more important to yourself than to me, since it is all your have and can be critical to your career while it is just one of the many works in my group.

Do high-quality work: Quality is much more important than quantity; with high-quality publications, a lot of paper invitations will come, so do not worry about quantity. The criteria for high-quality:

  • Scientific taste: figure out and solve important questions.
  • Solution: new (no one else has done) or much better (not minor incremental improvement).

Be independent first and then collaborative, but no competition within the group: We strongly encourage collaboration, but you must have your independent work first so that you can really contribute to the collaboration. Even if multiple members are working on a similar topic, the specific methods and questions could be different, and they should work together to help each other.

Keep confidential of any codes, models and experimental data: DO NOT share any codes or models or experimental data with anyone without my permission. The codes and models could be year-long continuous efforts by me and other group members and financially supported multi-million-dollar grants, and are intellectual properties owned by CityU.
