Securing the intellectual property of CityU students’ discovery activities is becoming increasingly important, in a world where “first to file” paves the path to intellectual property ownership.

In this seminar, Mr. Alex Au was invited to shares innovative ways to guide undergraduate students through the usually difficult and costly process of securing patents in Hong Kong. He explained the practices used successfully at CityU to engage students in the patent writing and application process. These practices have led CityU undergraduate students to obtain over 30 patents.

About the Speaker

Mr. Alex Au has over 25 years of experience in the Technology and Video industry. He started his career working for Asaca & Shibasoku Corp of America and held technical and marketing positions in the USA, Japan, Hong Kong and China with companies such as Sony, EMC², Miranda (Now Grass Valley) and Harmonics. Mr. AU is now a practicing lawyer in Hong Kong specializing in Commercial and Intellectual Properties law. He received a B.Sc in Electronic Engineering from the University of California at Los Angeles and a Juris Doctor Degree from the City University of Hong Kong.
