The SS Laboratories at Nam Shan Building have been established to encourage and support research and teaching by the Department of Social and Behavioural Sciences. This establishment consists of ‘Psychology Laboratories’ and ‘Practice Laboratories’ with four cubicles, three main laboratories, two counselling rooms, a multi-purpose room, two control rooms and a reception area. In addition. appropriate hardware and equipment for students to conduct experiments and practice skills in laboratory settings have been installed.
BSL Psychophysiology System
Manufactured by the BIOPAC Systems, Inc., the BSL
Psychophysiology System is installed in Room 513.
Here, state-of-the-art technology, innovative
software and industry-standard hardware come
together to receive and analyse ECG, EDA/GSR, and
EMG data.
Eye-tracking system
An eye-tracking system is installed in Room 514,
where eye movements and visual attention can be
analysed.
Virtual reality system
A virtual reality system is held in Room 518. This
form of technology creates three-dimensional,
computer-generated environments for interactions.
EEG recording system
A 64-channel ANT EEG recording system (eegoTM
mylab) is installed in Room 512. It allows
users to measure electrophysiological signals from
human participants, with exceptionally high temporal
resolution in various experimental contexts.
Child and family observation
room
The child and family observation room provides a
child-friendly environment and research facility for
studies and observation of child development and
family interactions.
Counselling rooms
Two counselling rooms for counselling practice
provide an atmosphere of total confidentiality,
compassion, respect and non-judgment.
Large multi-purpose room
This is used for teaching, meeting, mediation, group
counselling practice, and play therapy.
Control rooms
There are two control rooms for monitoring and
recording during experiments or other practices. The
rooms are also equipped with one-way mirrors.
Computer room
This room is used for training in contemporary
scientific software as well as for conducting
computer-based experiments.
Video and sound recording system in each
room
This is for public safety and security, as well as
for recording and training purposes.
Research Volunteer Scheme
