The Tung and Ngai Education Foundation Scholarship 2026
Objectives of the Scholarship
In the era of China's ascent to a global economic powerhouse, The Tung and Ngai Education Foundation Scholarship aims to prepare Hong Kong's youth with the skills and perspectives necessary for leadership in this new world order. The Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) stands as a testament to China’s commitment to innovation and reform. This scholarship is tailored to help the new generation maintain Hong Kong's pivotal socio-economic role. The Scholarship seeks to:
- Nurture young leaders with a deep sense of social responsibility and cultural confidence.
- Equip scholars for a lifelong commitment to the Hong Kong community and China's development.
- Promote independent learning, cross-cultural communication, and exceptional leadership.
- Develop cross-cultural bridge-builders who connect Hong Kong, the Greater Bay Area, and the wider world.
- Encourage a spirit of endeavour and innovation.
Components of the Scholarship

Comprehensive Financial Award to support learning and growth:
- Full Tuition Fee Waiver covering the normative study period on a UGC-funded basis;
- Living Allowance 1 of HK$40,000 ;
- Mainland and Overseas Allowance of maximum HK$80,000 for exchange programs including one compulsory exchange on the mainland and an optional international exchange program with flexibility on program duration; and
- Endeavour Support Fund 2 up to HK$100,000 for career or start-up projects in the Greater Bay Area or other parts of Mainland China.
- Orientation Programme;
- Salons and Conferences;
- Graduation Project & Scholar Forum; and
- Scholars Community, etc.
1 When a Scholar is awarded the Mainland China and Overseas Allowance in a particular year, the living allowance in that year will be adjusted according to the timing and duration of exchange Programme(s).
2 Scholars can begin applying for the Endeavour Support Fund (ESF) for career or start-up projects starting from the second term in the third year of their undergraduate study.
Eligibility
- Full-time first-year undergraduate student of UGC-funded programme at one of the scholarship's participating universities;
- A Year GPA of at least 3.7 out of 4.3 with ALL letter grades of courses taken available, or an equivalent;
- Permanent resident of Hong Kong;
- High proficiency in Chinese (Cantonese and Putonghua) and English;
- Willingness to reside in HK or Mainland China for two years post-scholarship and engage in community contribution. Flexibility will be given to post-graduate overseas study and other valid reasons.
Priority will be given to the candidate with financial needs in the event that both candidates are equally competent in all aspects of their performances.
If awarded, scholars are required to meet the Renewal Conditions annually for continuous entitlement to the Scholarship.
Documents for Application
- 2 letters of recommendation of which one must be from a teaching staff/faculty member of the University.
- Copies of the public examinations results (e.g. DSE, IB, or GCE A-Levels).
- An academic transcript up to the latest term of 2025/26.
- Copies of academic transcript on exchange studies (if any).
- Copies of evidence as mentioned in Section D, E and F of the application form, e.g. certificates / letters / photos of trophies/gold medals.
- A personal statement in English (not more than 500 words) as set in Part H of the application form.
- A learning proposal in English or Chinese (not more than 300 words) as set in Part I of the application form
- A copy of both sides of the Permanent HKID card on one page.

Application Methods and Deadlines
- Open-application method: submit an application form with supporting documents to sdsfinance@cityu.edu.hk directly by 22 May 2026 . Late application or incomplete submission will NOT be considered.
- Nomination method: to be nominated by your College/School/Department. The deadline is set by the respective College/School/Department.
IMPORTANT POINTS TO NOTE:
- The applicants/nominees should provide valid proof (as many as possible) to demonstrate your leadership abilities and commitment to the local Hong Kong community and China at the time of application/nomination.
- Shortlisted candidates MUST attend on-site selection interview(s) in mid June 2026 and July 2026. Candidates who could not attend the interviews in-person will NOT be considered for the Scholarship.
- The selection interviews for The D. H. Chen Foundation Scholarship and The Tung and Ngai Education Foundation Scholarship will be conducted concurrently by the panel in mid June 2026. Please note that the panel's decision will be final.
- Shortlisted candidates are required to attend the coaching workshops to enhance their writing of personal statements and interviewing skills if invited.
