Professor Huang Yu is currently Head and Chair Professor of Biomedical Sciences and Vascular Biology in the Department of Biomedical Sciences of City University of Hong Kong. He obtained a Bachelor's Degree of Science from Fudan University Shanghai Medical College, China, and a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Cambridge, the United Kingdom.
The research focus of Professor Huang’s team is to elucidate cellular and molecular events in initiation and progression of endothelial cell dysfunction in hypertension, obesity and diabetes, to uncover novel biomarkers for vascular pathogenesis, and to develop venues to reverse vascular dysfunction in animal models of cardio-metabolic disorders. He has been listed among the top 2% of the world's most highly cited scientists since 2021, according to metrics compiled by Stanford University. He has co-authored 470 peer-reviewed publications in Science Citation Index (SCI)-indexed journals, including Nature, Science and Cell Metabolism.
Professor Huang has been Vice-President of the Chinese Section of the International Society for Heart Research (ISHR) since 2016. He is an elected ISHR Fellow in 2019, and received the “Senior Research Fellow Award” by the Hong Kong Research Grants Council (RGC) in 2020. He serves as a Grant Review Panel Member for RGC and the Natural Science Foundation of China. He has served as an editor, guest editor, associate editor and editorial board member of 18 SCI-indexed journals, including the British Journal of Pharmacology and Circulation Research of the American Heart Association. He has also received numerous awards, including the “Croucher Award – Croucher Senior Research Fellowship” (2014), the “State Natural Science Award” (Second-Class), China (2015), the “Higher Education Outstanding Scientific Research Output Award”, the Ministry of Education in China (2012, 2017 and 2019), the “Wuxi PharmaTech Life Science and Chemistry Award – The Scholar Award” (2020) and the Natural Science Award (First-class), Hubei Province (2024).
