Technology  

This patent presents an interactive elderly assistance system designed to improve engagement and quality of life. The system includes a computing apparatus (tablet, smartphone, or PC) with a processor, display, user interface, memory, and camera. A software application identifies the user (via login or biometrics) and generates personalized medication reminders (including dosage and medical device usage) and exercise reminders (tailored exercise programs). An animated on-screen character performs the exercises to guide the user, enhancing engagement.

The system provides an interactive chat function using speech/text recognition and natural language processing (NLP) libraries. The user can chat verbally with the animated character, which acts as a chatbot, providing conversation and companionship. Alternatively, the system connects to remote chat servers (e.g., WhatsApp, Discord) for social interaction with real people. Entertainment functions include karaoke and dance-along, where the character lip-syncs or mimics the user's movements (via pose estimation using the camera). The processor applies a pose estimation process (using a CNN) to identify the user's limb movements and lip movements from camera images. This enables motion-controlled avatar animation for virtual worlds (e.g., metaverse). The system also accepts voice/sound/image/video/handwriting/gesture commands.
