Dear Staff, Students and Alumni,

I am thrilled to share with you a significant milestone in the history of our institution. The Ministry of Education has officially approved the establishment of City University of Hong Kong (Dongguan), or “CityUHK (Dongguan)”, marking a new chapter in our commitment to higher education and innovation.

This achievement is a testament to our collective efforts and the unwavering support from the Ministry of Education, the Guangdong Provincial Department of Education, and the Dongguan Municipal People's Government. CityUHK (Dongguan) is strategically located in the Songshan Lake High-Tech Industrial Development Zone (Science City), a state-level, comprehensive high-tech industrial development zone. This positions us to become a pivotal hub for industry-academia-research collaboration, further solidifying our leading position in innovative education and talent development.

As we embark on this exciting journey, CityUHK (Dongguan) will uphold our educational philosophy, fostering an educational environment that is inspiring, interactive, and innovative. We will continue to nurture innovative talents under the principle of ‘two schools, one quality’.

Earlier this year, CityUHK was honoured as the Most International University in the World 2024 by Times Higher Education. This recognition, along with our commitment to research and professional education, fuels our ambition to become a world-class institution in research, education, and innovation.

CityUHK (Dongguan) will initially offer four undergraduate programmes and ten master’s programmes, focusing on fields such as computer science, artificial intelligence and data science, high-end electronic communications, biomedical engineering, intelligent manufacturing, advanced materials, new energy, civil and architectural engineering, and digital economy. We are excited to welcome our first cohort of students in September this year.

The first phase of our campus construction began in early 2022 and was inaugurated earlier this year. The second phase is projected to be completed by 2026. Our campus, nestled in the Songshan Lake Science City, is surrounded by a plethora of large scientific facilities, Guangdong Provincial Laboratories, leading technology companies, and other high-end innovative resources. 

This is a proud moment for all of us at CityUHK. I want to express my deepest gratitude to each and every one of you for your contributions to our institution. Your dedication and hard work have played a crucial role in reaching this milestone. As we look forward to the future, let's continue to strive for excellence and make CityUHK (Dongguan) a beacon of innovation and education.
