Congratulations to Prof. Alex Ching Tai NG who is awarded in the Academic Stream and Sr Tim Chi Hang NGAI being awarded in the Industry Stream! Your dedication and incredible milestones continue to serve as a blueprint for us all!

About the Awardees

Prof Alex Ng is an accomplished academic leader and internationally recognised expert in structural health monitoring and smart sensing. He received his BEng in Building Engineering (Modern Structural Engineering) and MPhil from CityUHK ACE, in 2005 and 2007, respectively, and PhD from The University of Queensland in 2011. Prof Ng has made significant contributions to structural engineering through internationally recognised research. His research has attracted more than AUD 6 million in competitive funding, including an ARC DECRA Fellowship, Discovery, and Linkage projects. He is currently Professor and Academic Lead (Research) at the School of Civil Engineering and Construction Management, Adelaide University and held senior leadership positions, including Associate Dean (Graduate Studies) and Deputy Head of School. His achievements have earned prominent roles, including Co-Editor-in-Chief of Engineering Structures, Council Member of the Society for Civil Structural Health Monitoring (SCSHM), and Executive Committee Member of the Australian Network of Structural Health Monitoring. He is also a recipient of the prestigious Nishino Prize for contributions to structural engineering and construction. He contributes to ACE through enhancing ACE’s international profile, such as mentoring ACE BEng graduates and supporting ACE’s international conference organizing activities.

Sr Tim Ngai completed his BSc in Quantity Surveying (QS) from CityUHK ACE in 2002. His exemplary QS services was demonstrated by being a Fellow of the Hong Kong Institute of Surveyors (2023) and a Professorate Senior Engineer in Cost Engineering in Guangdong Province (2025). Joining Rider Levett Bucknall (RLB) after graduation in 2002, Tim was based in Wuhan for four years as the first person-in-charge of Wuhan Office. He has been involved in a variety of projects including commercial, residential, mixed-used, theme park and super high-rise building across Hong Kong, Macau, Mainland China and Korea. Tim was the first ACE graduate appointed as a Director (2019) and a Global Board Director (2026) of RLB. Since 2017, Tim has contributed to the ACE academic offerings as Industrial Mentor (Surveying) and external advisor (IBPD). Tim has offered inspiration, professional guidance and mentorship to ACE students. In addition, Tim brought ACE to the attention of the construction community in serving Chairman of the HKIS QS Division (2024-25), Chairman of the Advisory Group of the Construction Industry Council on Craftsmanship, and a Committee Member of the HK Chapter of the Council on Vertical Urbanism.
