Exchange students must be enrolled at CityU as a full-time exchange student in order to obtain a student visa in Hong Kong. To fulfil this requirement, exchange students MUST register for at least 12 credits BUT not more than 18 credits in a single semester. Student affiliated to the College of Science (CSCI) and College of Engineering (CENG) must take at least 9 credits of courses offered by departments under CSCI & CENG.

When making their study plans, participating students should seek academic advice from the advisors of their home universities or from CSCI exchange coordinators.

Precursors to particular courses are not mandatory requirements, but students are advised to complete precursors before taking such courses.
