Alumni connect at talk series: Hong Kong Empowering Enterprises to “Go Global": New Opportunities Linking the Chinese Mainland and Global Markets (Co-organised by the Alumni Relations Office and CityUHK Eminence Society)

CityUHK Alumni Relations Office (ARO) and senior alumni organization Eminence Society (ES) jointly organised a talk titled “Hong Kong Empowering Enterprises to ‘Go Global’: New Opportunities Linking the Chinese Mainland and Global Markets” on 22 September 2026. The event featured Mr Algernon Yau Ying-wah, JP, Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development of the HKSAR, who shared his insights into Hong Kong’s role in facilitating enterprises to expand into global markets.

Professor Chun-Sing Lee, Acting President of CityUHK, welcomed Mr Yau, highlighting the University’s international engagement and its efforts to nurture globally minded and innovative talent. He also emphasised the importance of talent, innovation and international collaboration, as well as the importance of alumni and the CityUHK Eminence Society in strengthening the University’s global connections.

Dr Allen Shi Lop-tak, Chairman of the CityUHK Eminence Society, highlighted the Society’s commitment to fostering cross-sector and international exchange among members, and noted that the evening’s topic closely aligned with its mission of broadening members’ global perspectives and strengthening alumni connections.

Mr Yau highlighted Hong Kong’s unique advantages as an international business hub and its strategic role in connecting the Chinese Mainland with global markets. He also shared his views on the opportunities arising from Hong Kong’s closer integration with the Chinese Mainland, as well as Hong Kong’s international connections and professional services that support enterprises in their international development.

The presentation was followed by a Q&A session, during which alumni exchanged views with Mr Yau on Hong Kong’s business environment, international expansion and the opportunities available to enterprises seeking to “go global”.

The event was attended by University representatives, members of the CityUHK Eminence Society, alumni and guests, reflecting the strong collaboration between ARO and ES. It provided a meaningful platform for knowledge exchange, while strengthening connections among the University, the CityUHK Eminence Society, and wider alumni community.
