Dr. LU Yang was awarded the 2019 NSFC Excellent Young Scientists Fund (Hong Kong and Macau) for his project "微納米力學 Micro/Nano-Mechanics". He will receive a funding of RMB1.3 million to conduct nanomechanics study on low-dimensional crystalline materials and probing their flexible device and strain engineering applications for a maximum period of three years.
The fund, under the National Natural Science Foundation of China, was open for applications exclusively from Hong Kong and Macau for the first time. It aims to support top young scientists with outstanding achievements in basic research to carry out innovative research in fields of their choice, and nurture talent at the global forefront of technology.
Congratulations to a team of MNE 2019 graduates, Mr HO Cheuk Lung, Mr MAK Chun Wing, Mr SHE Ka Chun, Mr TANG Kai Tat and Mr LUK Tze Ching, for winning the Merit Prize of the HKEIA Innovation & Technology Project Competition Award (2019) for their project “Manipulator with Computer Vision” under the supervision of Prof. LI Youfu.
Organized by The Hong Kong Electronic Industries Association Limited (HKEIA), the Award is an annual competition for students of electronic engineering or related engineering fields, with an aim to recognize and reward students with outstanding projects which demonstrate excellence in technology and innovation.
Prof. Zuankai Wang and his PhD graduate, Dr. Jing Li, has received the Hiwin Dissertation Silver Award from the Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society. The award carries a cash prize of RMB 0.3 million.
A team of MNE graduates and student including PhD graduate Dr. YANG Shaoran, MScME graduate TSANG Ying and BEng Mechanical Engineering student NIU Xuezhi won the Silver Prize in recent the 8th "Winning in Guangzhou" and Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Entrepreneurship Competition for College Students. The awarded project “SinEnergy Flexible Bracelet Battery” was selected among 15,700 entries submitted by 140 higher education institutes. The MNE team ranked 4/56 in the final round and was the only winner from Hong Kong.
The Project Supervisor Dr. Kaili Zhang also received the prize of The Best Supervisor in the same event.
Congratulations to Dr. LU Yang on receiving the Outstanding Research Awards for Junior Faculty in recognition of his exceptionally outstanding research achievements. The Award will be formally presented to the winners at the University Congregation in November 2019.
Prof. Zuankai Wang has been selected as Fellow of The International Society of Bionic Engineering (ISBE) for his distinct contributions to the area of nature-inspired engineering. Founded in 2010, the ISBE is an educational, non-profit, non-political organization which fosters the exchange of information on bionic engineering research, development and application. To date, only 10 members of the ISBE have received the fellowship recognition.
Collaborating with the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China and Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research, Prof. Zuankai Wang has published a paper titled “Surface charge printing for programmed droplet transport” in Nature Materials. This work reports a new paradigm for droplet transport that has the potential for many applications ranging from water harvesting to bio-analysis. This work was also highlighted by Nature.
