Prof. Jung-Eun Chu, Assistant Professor at the School of Energy and Environment (SEE), City University of Hong Kong, was recently featured in a news segment by Al Jazeera, one of the world’s leading international news broadcasters. The segment examined the impact of Typhoon Ragasa—the strongest storm to hit Asia in recent years—and explored the broader implications of climate change on tropical cyclone behavior.

In the interview, Prof. Chu explained, “The energy source of tropical cyclone is warm surface ocean. Under warming conditions, they absorb more energy from the ocean, but at the same time, they contain more moisture.” Her expert insight helped contextualize the increasing intensity of typhoons affecting Hong Kong and the region.

The segment also highlighted community responses to storm damage, including efforts to repurpose fallen trees through sustainable design initiatives.
