The School of Energy and Environment (SEE) at City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK), in collaboration with the Institute for Energy and Environmental Flows (IEEF) at the University of Cambridge, successfully co-hosted the Cambridge–CityUHK Joint Online Workshop over two days in January 2026.
The workshop officially commenced with opening remarks by Prof. Benjamin Horton, Dean of SEE at CityUHK, and Prof. Andy Woods, Head of IEEF at the University of Cambridge. Both speakers highlighted the importance of interdisciplinary and cross-institutional collaboration in tackling global challenges related to energy, climate change, and physical sciences.

Representing CityUHK’s School of Energy and Environment, speakers included Prof. Fatwa Abdi, Prof. Shauhrat Chopra, Prof. Jung-Eun Chu, Prof. Benjamin Horton, Prof. Sam Hsu, Prof. Patrick Lee, Prof. Wanxin Li, Prof. Carol Lin, Prof. Theodora Nah, Prof. Patrick Sit, Prof. Edwin Tso, Prof. Jian Wang, Prof. Xue Wang, and Prof. Moriaki Yasuhara.
The University of Cambridge’s Institute for Energy and Environmental Flows was represented by Prof. Stuart Clarke, Prof. Quentin Kriaa, Prof. Jerome Neufeld, Prof. Alex Routh, and Prof. Andy Woods.
Together, these distinguished scholars shared insights spanning environmental chemistry, biotechnology, climate science, advanced energy technologies, and fluid dynamics. The workshop facilitated rich academic exchange while strengthening interdisciplinary collaboration between the two institutions.
By integrating diverse research strengths across physical sciences and sustainability research, the workshop provided a valuable platform for identifying synergies and opportunities for long-term cooperation. It also laid the foundation for a joint research programme that will combine complementary expertise from CityUHK and Cambridge to drive impactful solutions in science, technology, and sustainability.
The School of Energy and Environment is pleased to have co-organised this initiative and warmly acknowledges the contributions of all speakers, looking forward to the continued collaboration and positive outcomes arising from this partnership.
