Adoption of the New Quadrivalent Avian Influenza Vaccine and Poultry Disease & Health

October 13, 2026

Last week, the CityUHK Poultry Ambulatory Team participated in the seminar on “Adoption of the New Quadrivalent Avian Influenza Vaccine and Poultry Disease & Health”, organized by the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD).

To strengthen protection against emerging high pathogenicity avian influenza virus strains, AFCD will gradually introduce a new quadrivalent avian influenza vaccine to local chicken farms. This initiative aims to enhance disease prevention and safeguard both animal and public health.

During the seminar, the CityUHK Poultry Ambulatory Team provided an overview of its veterinary services and shared the latest updates on poultry health. Dr. Tsang Ling Shan highlighted the Team's field-based veterinary support for local poultry farms and emphasized the critical role of vaccination as a cornerstone of farm biosecurity. Drawing on practical case studies and field experience, the presentation demonstrated how evidence-based veterinary care and preventive health management can improve flock health, enhance farm productivity, and strengthen disease preparedness.

The seminar provided a valuable platform for knowledge exchange among industry stakeholders and further strengthened the long-standing collaboration between CityUHK, AFCD, and Hong Kong's poultry sector in promoting sustainable poultry health and disease prevention.
