The Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) hosted a Plaque Presentation Ceremony on 25 Aug 2025, during which the Ministry of Science and Technology of the People’s Republic of China presented plaques to 15 State Key Laboratories in Hong Kong. Two State Key Laboratories are hosted by City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK), including the State Key Laboratory of Marine Environmental Health (SKMEH).
The State Key Laboratory of Marine Environmental Health, formerly known as the State Key Laboratory of Marine Pollution, was founded in 2010. It is currently led by Professor Leung Mei-yee, Associate Dean (Outreach and Internationalisation) of the College of Science and Chair Professor of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry in the Department of Chemistry. The laboratory focuses on monitoring and managing emerging pollutants, assessing and restoring marine ecological health, enhancing biodiversity conservation, and supporting ecological civilisation and sustainable blue economy development.
This acknowledgement underscores CityUHK’s academic and research excellence, positioning it as a significant contributor to Hong Kong’s integration into the country’s scientific advancement.
