Department of Economics and Finance, PhD Year 2

ASAMOAH, Prince Elvis

A day after I arrived as a fresh student in CityU, I met a senior student at the office who asked me if I reside in the hall, and I told him yes, I am privileged. He said to me “since he moved out of the hall, he now knows living in the hall is like living in paradise”. I smiled, but I did not fully understand what he meant, now I understand.

My first year in hall 8 has been nothing but the best I can ask for. I have met amazing people from other countries, who are friends now. I have learnt other cultures from friends and I really appreciate that. I have had the opportunity to taste many kinds of foods from other countries, as a result of my friends. Everyone I have met in the hall for the past year have been amazing and friendly, not forgetting our super cool and ever friendly hall master. The hall has organized tours, trips, and hikes to some of the amazing places here in Hong Kong. I have personally learnt a lot about Hong Kong among other things through these activities.

I have also served the hall in some capacities. First, as a floor rep and fire marshal, ensuring the safety of electronic gadgets in the common room, as well as the ultimate safety of my colleagues on the floor. I also serve as an athlete for the hall. I also played for the hall soccer team during the PEK games and has helped the team achieve its best feat by scoring most goals for team during the PEK soccer competition.

My participation in hall activities over the year has opened me up to new knowledge and insight about a lot of things. I have learnt stuffs I could not have learnt in the classroom. I have made great friends as well. After a year in the hall and partaking in activities, I now understand why the senior student told me living in the hall is like living in paradise, it really is. I hope to remain in the hall and to contribute to my great hall – hall 8.
