Some worked in small groups, carefully preparing and sharing their creations, while others focused on perfecting the froth and flavor of their individual brews. Despite many being new to the practice, everyone embraced the experience with curiosity and enthusiasm. Cable Car Adventure
In early February, the Chinese New Year energy was still buzzing in the air. To kick off the semester (and grab some good luck for the year), our hall headed to Lantau Island on February 7th for a classic Ngong Ping 360 cable car adventure. Floating above the turquoise water and lush greenery, we felt less like students and more like birds—until the wind shook the cabin and we all collectively grabbed the nearest person’s arm. Once we reached Ngong Ping Village, the Big Buddha greeted us with that serene, "I know you didn't study over the break" look. We made our way up to the statue, which turned out to be a decent workout. Between the swirling incense at Po Lin Monastery and the endless "candid" photo shoots in front of the giant bronze statue, the day was a blur of laughter and Chinese New Year wishes. By the time we headed back, our legs were slightly shaky, but our camera rolls were full. It was the perfect start to 2026: no rush, no pressure, just the Big Buddha's calm vibes and the best company we could ask for.
Hall 9
Poon Choi
In the spirit of festivity and cultural appreciation, Hall 9 residents came together for a special Chinese New Year celebration, bonding over a communal feast that was both delicious and meaningful. The highlight of the evening was a steaming traditional poon choi, a "big bowl feast" filled with layers of abalone, roast pork, and mushrooms, which residents shared family-style at each table alongside an array of other Chinese New Year delicacies. As everyone ate, the organizers enriched the experience with an engaging presentation, delving into the origins of poon choi, tracing it back to ancient village traditions and explaining the myths and customs that define the Lunar New Year. The night was a perfect blend of community bonding and education, allowing residents to connect with each other while gaining a deeper appreciation for the rich cultural heritage behind the food they were sharing.
