CITY UNIVERSITY OF HONG KONG LAW REVIEW

Alumni Sharing

Audrey Ng

General Editor (2017-2018)

If I were to suggest one unforgettable experience in my four-year study as a law student, it would be joining the City University of Hong Kong Law Review (CityU Law Review). With a gap year of publication, the position of General Editor had indeed at first given me great concern. However, this, at the same time, has given the team and me the opportunity to start afresh and to revive the operation of the Law Review.

I would like to give my heartfelt gratitude to the editorial team, the Faculty Editor and the peer reviewers. Despite the long process of publication, the team has demonstrated their aspiration to publish, with one goal and one aim, through a high degree of cooperation. I would also like to thank the Faculty Editor, who had given the team to organize multifarious events, adopt different approaches to operating the journal and had extended his support wholeheartedly. The faculty members of the Law School of City University have also spent their precious time to engage in academic discussion with us, allowing our journal to maintain our academic standards.

The CityU Law Review is a diversified team with members from different backgrounds. Not only will law students get the chance to communicate with distinguished scholars and legal practitioners and gain knowledge of cutting-edge legal issues, but also get to know how to work as a team.  I am sure that joining the CityU Law Review will avail you with a valuable experience that will benefit you both in the workplace and your future study.

Lawrence Li

Editor In Chief (2011-2012)

LLM, Cambridge University

If there is one thing which changed my life as a law student the most, it must be joining the CityU LR. As one of the founding members and eventually the Editor-in-Chief, I witnessed the impressive progress made during my three years with the CityU LR, which could not be achieved without each and every members' wholehearted contribution to the team and the Faculty Editor's guidance.

Despite that from reviewing to publication is a long process, I benefited a lot from it, as there were always new areas of law to be explored. I must also therefore thank each contributor to the CityU LR for making this academic dialogue with law students possible.

Whenever I reflect on my experience with the CityU LR, I always find it invaluable as it allowed me to appreciate that law is an art; it is not only about application, but also about critiques and improvements. This is also an experience which I wish to share with all law students at CityU, as you are privileged to have this opportunity to go beyond the four corners fixed by the curriculum and develop your own philosophy of the law.

Prabhjyot Gill

Editor-in-Chief (2010-2011)

It was truly a privilege to have held the position of Editor-in-chief of the Editorial Board. The leadership role was truly challenging because it entailed not only the editorial rigour of publishing but also administration. This position was central to communication and co-ordination within the team. It was a position loaded with responsibility but I was grateful for the tremendous support provided by the Faculty Editor and Editors.

Being a part of the Editorial Board enables one to hone research and writing skills. Students also come into contact with the latest developments in law across a wide spectrum of topics. The opportunity to examine the logic, structure, style and content of papers allows students to develop a critical mind frame and an eye for detail - sought-after attributes of any good lawyer.

This experience has no doubt been valuable to my development as a law student and for landing job opportunities. But it goes beyond just that - I am confident that over time, I will come to realise just how much of what I experienced during my time with the CityU LR is relevant. If you put in the work, rest assured that you would not miss out on the rewards!
