Prof. Angus Yip joined the School of Energy and Environmental Science (SEE) and Department of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) at CityU as a Professor in 2021. He started his academic career as a Professor in the State Key Laboratory of Luminescent Materials and Devices (SKLLMD) and the School of Materials Science and Engineering at South China University of Technology (SCUT), Guangzhou, in 2013. Since 2017, he also served as the director of the Innovation Center for Printed Organic Photovoltaics in the South China Institute of Collaborative Innovation, Dongguan, which aim is to promote technology transfer and commercialization of new photovoltaic technologies. He got his BSc and MPhil degrees in Materials Science from the Chinese University of Hong Kong, and completed his PhD degree in MSE in 2008 at the University of Washington, Seattle.

Research

Prof. Yip’s research is in the general area of solution processed optoelectronic materials and devices for energy generation and energy saving. His research focuses on understanding the structure-property relationships, device physics and photophysics, and device optimization of 1) organic solar cells, 2) perovskite solar cells and 3) perovskite LEDs. His research group is highly interdisciplinary, with research scientists, post-docs and students coming from various backgrounds including materials science, environmental science, physics, chemistry and engineering. He has published more than 220 papers in top journals including Nature (1), Science (1), Nat. Photonics (1), Nat. Commun. (5),  Adv. Mater. (26), Adv. Energy Mater. (22), Adv. Funct. Mater. (11), Energy Environ. Sci. (6), J Am. Chem. Soc. (6), Joule (6), etc, with total number of citations ~25000 and a H-index of 80 (updated to Jan 2021). He has been named 7 times consecutively as the “Highly Cited Researchers” from 2014-2020. He had received over 10 national and provincial grants, with a total funding scale of over 50 million RMB. In addition to fundamental research, he also dedicated a significant amount of effort to promote translational research, targeting for the commercialization of new generation of solar cell technology.
